Chernobyl Children's Project International has developed a close working relationship with the United Nations to raise worldwide awareness of the impact of the Chernobyl disaster. We join the United Nations in our committment to long term, sustainable, community based programs that will help the people of Belarus help themselves.


Official United Nations NGO Status

In recognition of our efficiency and long working relationship with the United Nations, Chernobyl Children's Project International has achieved official United Nations NGO status. CCPI Directors Adi Roche, Sherrie Douglas and Kathy Ryan were selected to participate in the 57th Annual United Nations Conference in New York City, 8 to 10 September 2004. The conference focused on the role of civil society and governments in the implementation of the eight millennium development goals that were set by the 189 UN Member States in 2000. The goals are designed to give people worldwide the tools to care for themselves in healthy, sustainable environments. 18th Anniversary of the Chernobyl Disaster
CCPI International Executive Director Adi Roche keynoted a special event at UN Headquarters in April 2004, the 18th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster. The event featured addresses by Ambassadors from the Chernobyl affected countries of Belarus, Russia, and Ukraine. 
 
International Chernobyl Research and Information Network (ICRIN)
All organizations and governments in Chernobyl affected regions need a coordianted approach to research and to finding long-term and sustainable solutions to the ongoing problems experienced by people of the afflicted regions. ICRIN -- a new initiative cosponsored by the United Nations and the Swiss Angency for Development and Cooperation -- was launched in July 2003. CCPI's Adi Roche delivered the keynote address at the launch of this important initiative. Chernobyl Children's Project International was selected to be the representative NGO on the steering committee of ICRIN.
